Delightful Planet
About Us
Delightful Planet is a science-education organization with one mission: enhancing planet literacy. We help people see, understand and care for the world they inhabit.
Why we exist
We know our sports stars and our movie stars, but not the true stars of the planet. The tree outside your window. The migratory bird overhead. The ecological system that makes your food possible.
Nature is often taught in fragments, rather than as a connected understanding of the living world. And campaigns built around crisis can leave young people with worry but no way to act. We begin somewhere else: with the splendor and engineering brilliance of the living world.
Planet literacy is a way of seeing. We want to nurture Nature Citizens, people who understand, appreciate and care for the living planet.
What we build
- Nature Brilliant: our flagship book, on the engineering genius hidden in plain sight, from spider silk to forest networks to whale hydrodynamics.
- Delightful Oceans: a science-education platform on the intelligence and ecological significance of marine life.
- Planet Wonder: a growing series, each article built around one hidden biological mechanism in a familiar animal.
- Planet Trivia: questions drawn from verified Planet Wonder articles, with four choices and one truth.
- Ocean360 Global Academy: a unified ocean literacy framework. Coming soon.
Who is behind it
Delightful Planet was founded by Dr. Panchabi V. Nathan, an environmental scientist and educator with more than thirty-five years of experience in research, teaching and science communication.
Dr. Nathan was a scientist at the Smithsonian Institution and INRS-Eau, and a Research Professor at Duke University. At Divers Alert Network (DAN), he served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Information Officer.
He created Delightful Oceans, co-founded Ocean360 Global Academy, and wrote Nature Brilliant, illustrated by Ana Bigio, which received the 2026 ADEX Blue Legacy Award for Book of the Year.
His approach begins with wonder. When people see the living world clearly, they come to love it, and protecting it follows naturally.
